Innsbruck, Austria

Innsbruck is the capital city of the federal state ofTyrol in western Austria. It is located in the Inn Valley. Innsbruck hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics. The word bruck comes from the German word Brücke meaning "bridge" which leads to "the bridge over the Inn".

A nice drawing by Zec during one of our million long coach rides. He did a good job in "summaring" the sceneries (which started to look alike after a while)- the hills, cows, horses, clouds, power lines, plantations, trees, windmills and planes which flew over us frequently!

After a symposium at UgiChem, a chemical firm in Austria, all of us took a cable car ride up Nordpark Ski Resort which is only active during winter. It was summer when we were there, hence it was quite quiet, except from some mountain bikers. We were all jumping for joy at the sight of snow(below)!

The hosts(bosses of the company) were really friendly and hospitable. They treated all 30 odd of us to the cable car up the Ski Resort. It costs about 20 Euro/person!

Look at how pretty it was! We were freezing terrible because we were wearing summer clothings and were totally not prepared for such cold climate!

Peng Koon, my beloved lab partner! Dont miss my presence for the next one year=)
Finally at the peak!Panting away in the cold!
The older pedestrian district of Innsbruck with the famous Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) and the Alps in the background.
The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) is a landmark in Innsbruck, Austira built in 1500. It was decorated with 2657 fire-gilded copper tiles for Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor. The reliefs on the balcony show coats of arms, symbols and other figures in his life. (The original reliefs are located in the Tiroler Landesmuseum). The emperor and others used the balcony to watch events in the square below.
